{% trans %}PTR Record Information{% endtrans %}
{% trans %}Important Information{% endtrans %}

{% trans %}This tool creates PTR records in bulk. Two modes are available:{% endtrans %}

  • {% trans %}All IPs{% endtrans %}: {% trans %}Creates PTR records for every IP in the network range{% endtrans %}
  • {% trans %}Matching only{% endtrans %}: {% trans %}Creates PTR records only for IPs that have existing A/AAAA records in the forward zone{% endtrans %}

{% trans %}For IPv4, supported networks are:{% endtrans %}

  • /30 (4 addresses, 2 usable hosts)
  • /29 (8 addresses, 6 usable hosts)
  • /28 (16 addresses, 14 usable hosts)
  • /27 (32 addresses, 30 usable hosts)
  • /26 (64 addresses, 62 usable hosts)
  • /25 (128 addresses, 126 usable hosts)
  • /24 (256 addresses, 254 usable hosts)
  • /23 (512 addresses, 510 usable hosts)
  • /22 (1024 addresses, 1022 usable hosts)
  • /21 (2048 addresses, 2046 usable hosts)
  • /20 (4096 addresses, 4094 usable hosts)
{% trans %}Requirements{% endtrans %}

{% trans %}You must have the appropriate reverse zone already created in PowerDNS before using this feature.{% endtrans %}

{% trans %}For example:{% endtrans %}

  • {% trans %}For network 192.168.1.0/24, you need a reverse zone for 1.168.192.in-addr.arpa{% endtrans %}
  • {% trans %}For larger networks, you will need the corresponding reverse zones (e.g., 168.192.in-addr.arpa for a /16 network){% endtrans %}
{% trans %}Quick Tips{% endtrans %}
  • {% trans %}Use the dropdown button next to Network Prefix to select from existing reverse zones{% endtrans %}
  • {% trans %}Use "Create PTRs only for existing A/AAAA records" to populate PTRs based on your forward zone{% endtrans %}
  • {% trans %}Use the Host Prefix field to add a prefix to all hostnames when creating all IPs{% endtrans %}
  • {% trans %}Check "Create forward A/AAAA records" to automatically create matching forward records (disabled when using matching mode){% endtrans %}
